Below you will see a documentation of compositions and arrangements exploring what the word creativity means to me. The work is inspired by the angular greats of Black American Music, classical harmony, and beyond — in particular the works of John Carter and Bobby Bradford, as well as the creative processes of Anthony Braxton. The music also draws from composers such as Jason Moran, Henry Threadgill, Duke Ellington, Steve Lehman, Soweto Kinch, Ligeti and Stravinsky.

This year I have been meeting up with friends and recording music, for music’s sake. As a composer, my goal is to capture a mood and give it back — sonically. I am dedicated to writing for unconventional lineups, elevating collaborators’ voices, and placing musicians in spaces where you might not usually see them. I also use visual art, movement and screen-based stimuli in my process.

If you click on the title of any of these pieces, you’ll be led to my Substack, where I include a bit of writing about the process, the inspiration behind the piece, and what’s going on musically.

Most of the work here has been filmed to tape on an old 2002 camera I found at my mum’s house. It’s not shiny — the capture is old, grainy, recycled — but it feels like a better representation of my music.
