EXPERIENCE
Since 2017, Joe has had a variety of roles in different environments in music education. He had the role of teaching assistant at Jazz House Kids Summer workshop for 3 years consecutively in New Jersey, US. This consisted of him leading sessions in improvisation, combos, trombone technique, and assisting the faculty run improvisation, big band sectionals, composition, 1:1 trombone lessons and teaching students from all over the world

He was a member of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra’s Jazz Messengers, which was a specialist group that toured the country on a yearly basis and delivered workshops and interactive performances to primary, secondary, sixth form schools, and adult amateur big bands across the country. This was a highly successful program, which had reached over 5000 young people. He also received training as a workshop leader, combo director and big band director as part of NYJO’s Mentor Scheme consisting of him shadowing some of the best educators in the country, and then being assessed on his workshop leading abilities. Alongside this, he has also been a NYJO ambassador, delivering brass master-classes, improvisation classes, and assisting the creative ensemble at NYJO’s weekly Saturday sessions.

Another organisation he has worked with on a freelance basis is Tomorrow’s Warriors. Over the covid lockdown period he taught the 4 members of the trombone section individually, successfully helping one of them gain a place at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. He has also been an ambassador for Tomorrow’s Warriors Jazz Ticket regional outreach program, assisting improvisation workshops in Southampton where he grew up

He assisted The Bear Club in Luton with their outreach programme as a workshop leader delivering jazz repetoire and improvisation workshops to Luton Sixth Form College and Putteridge High School, leading to a showcase performance at the club. He has also worked at Bonus Pastor Catholic College and The John Roan School as a Peripatetic Brass Tutor, teaching Trombone and Trumpet on a 1-1 capacity and leading the schools Jazz Band and Brass Ensembles.
Currently he works at The City Academy Hackney teaching Trombone 1-1 and to small groups, and also teaches Trombone and Trumpet privately from his home in South East London. He is very open to new students of all ages, backgrounds, identities, experience levels, and resonates deeply with Tomorrow's Warriors ethos 'each one, teach one'. He offers lessons in person or online, and warmly welcomes any interested in studying Trombone, Trumpet, Euphonium, Improvisation, Jazz Harmony and Composition to send him a message through the contact section of his website.
